The Walk for Water was supported by The Human Bean to help raise funds for water improvement projects though out the developing world. The walk was held in Portland between 2009 – 2014.
Two water pumps for rural schools in Kenya received the first water pumps. The pumps include a sun pump powered by solar that produces enough water a day to serve 1,000 people. A fun pump doubles as a merry-go-round to bring water to about 2500 people.
Temeke Primary School in Tanzania now has access to clean drinking water after the 2010 Walt for Water. Before the water well was built many children would have to walk up to 3 hours a day just to get water. With the new well attendance at the school is up and they are even able to grow a vegetable garden.
In 2011 four schools in Malawian were selected to receive wells, solar pumps and storage tanks for clean drinking water. The schools were identified for having the greatest need.
To help support the building of over 30 well and rehabilitating 136 non-functioning wells in 2012 The Walk for Water supported WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene). Part of the project is to help train and educate the importance of proper hygiene and sanitation.
In 2013 and 2014 we were able to support multiple projects in Papua New Guinea and Honduras with water and sanitation projects. These projects will forever change the communities.
