Coffee For a Cure is this Friday! During this annual event The Human Bean northern Colorado donates 100% of sales at all northern Colorado Human Bean locations directly back to local hospitals. All funds raised will remain in the local community to provide financial assistance to overcome barriers related to the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, and all cancers, for patients at local Banner and UCHealth facilities.

We had the pleasure of hearing some stories of patients that are impacted by the money raised during this event. Kristi, the Oncology Social Worker with Banner’s Northern Colorado Medial Center, shared with us the story of a Patient, newly diagnosed with breast cancer who was the sole provider for the family that included a school age child. The Patient’s main concern was “keeping a roof” over the family as well as, being assured groceries could be purchased.  The financial grant permitted the rent to be paid and for the family to supplement food from the local Food Pantry. Through sheer force of will, the patient was only off work for two months, so the assistance the grant provided, enabled the Patient and family to remain in their home.

Another Patient the Foundation assisted needed to seek supportive care in Denver, however the family vehicle needed costly repairs. The Patient’s spouse needed a vehicle not only to transport the Patient to all the medical appointments but also to maintain his employment. The financial grant from the foundation enabled the Patient and spouse to satisfy the bill for the costly repairs and the Patient was able to successfully make it to every appointment, both at NCMC and in Denver.

And lastly, a Patient who was unable to locate childcare for treatment days and as a result was unwilling to commit to chemotherapy. The grant allowed her to pay a provider, which allowed her to complete therapy with the peace of mind of knowing her children were safe.

This year, The Human Bean northern Colorado will be splitting the money raised at all 10 locations evenly between local Banner and UCHealth facilities. Thus exemplifying the spirit of collaboration between both networks, since it is not unusual for cancer patients to need the care of both Banner and UCHealth facilities during their treatment.

The generosity shown by our customers on this day gives these organizations an opportunity to erase or lessen a barrier to cancer care, thereby not only improving the overall success rate of treatment but also making our shared community feel that much more supported. source tracking
