What Do Coffee and Mammograms Have in Common? Coffee for a Cure

UPDATE: Thank you all for making this year’s Coffee for a Cure an overwhelming success! The totals are in and this year $426,551.42 was donated locally through all our locations to support the diagnosis, treatment and care of people with breast cancer and their families. Each year, this is such a special day that impacts so many. To date The Human Bean has donated over $2.6 million to this cause!

What do coffee and mammograms have in common? On October 22nd, 2021, it will be the number 16.

coffee for a cure human beanWe are looking forward to our 16th annual Coffee for a Cure event at all Human Bean locations throughout the US. Any place where there’s a Human Bean drive-thru, 100% of all food and beverage sales that day will be donated to support local foundations that offer breast cancer awareness, treatment and education. Each Human Bean franchisee will work directly with a local organization of their choice, donating the raised funds to make a local impact.

And to date, we’ve funded over 1,600 mammograms in Southern Oregon alone (home to The Human Bean headquarters). These mammograms are being used to detect early signs of breast cancer, and improve patient outcomes by starting treatment in the early stages. When detected early and in a localized state, the 5-year relative survival rate for breast cancer is nearly 99% (NationalBreastCancer.org)

To date, we’ve raised over $2.2 million total during our 16 historic Coffee for a Cure events. On this special day each year, 100% of all food and beverage sales is given to local organizations that help patients with preventative scans, patient treatment and follow-up care. If there’s a Human Bean in your community, the sales on Friday, October 22nd will be donated to a local foundation that the drive-thru has chosen to partner with.

Coffee for a Cure History

coffee for a cure 2021This is our largest nationwide fundraiser of the year, and one that’s near and dear to our hearts. Since starting this fundraiser in 2005, at The Human Bean we’ve lost a barista, franchise owner, family and friends to breast cancer.  Many of our drive-thru customers have their own stories of treatment or loss, and have already said they are planning to come out and support this year’s cause.

In 2018, the latest year with complete statistics available, there were 254,744 new cases of female breast cancer reported in the United States, resulting in 42,465 deaths (according to CDC data). With each year’s Coffee for a Cure event, we aim to help reduce these numbers in our local communities.
